Pretty Old Barn With A Pretty New Look…

Hey hey! How goes for you all?  Well, I decided back in October, 2010 that I would like to become a blogger.  I read & studied & read &….Well I think you get the picture.  So, I got myself a blog.  I had barely began posting.  Then all of the sudden, I got a new job.  YEAH!  My day to day world changed.  It was a great big wonderful adjustment I had to make.  Suddenly I felt like I was going to have to ditch the blog.  Then, I came to my senses & just decided to put it on hold for awhile.  So this little blog has been on hold for quite a long while now.  I know, I know, some would say what a bad idea to just let your blog sit out there in mid air for months without the least bit of attention.  What can I say.  I just couldn’t put it to bed.  My new job is going great!  Now it’s time to continue what I began so many months ago.  Now that I have given my big long excuse for not checking in for so long, I really want to talk about this really cool coincidence that happened to my camera & I over the course of 2 years.

The Old Pretty

I have driven by this old barn and many others more than a hundred times in the last twenty five years.  I started to notice it’s age & beauty.  One day I decided that it was worthy for a quick stop and snap shot.  I thought it was cool, cuz I like old barns and buildings.  I loaded it on to my “Old Barns & Buildings” file on my computer and that was that.

Well guess what!  One day a couple of years later, I was driving down that same road and saw a big red barn in the same place I had taken this picture of  “The Old Pretty”.  I immediately got a chill and said “OH MY GOSH!”  Where is the old barn I took a picture of?  I stopped.  I just sat there for a moment.  Then I immediately gained an almost tearful welling feeling of pride.  Someone loved this “old pretty” so much that they decided to give it a new life.  I was so very happy!  This…to my delight, is what I saw…

The New Pretty

I know it seems a little simple.  I have been blessed to be born & raised in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.  I am also happy to be in a land where I can still see a few old barns and buildings once in awhile.  Most of the time when I drive by them, I wish someone would take better care of them.  The odds of me taking a picture of an old tired barn and then seeing it revived years later is pretty slim around here.  I wish I could see it more often.

The feeling of pretty homey is not always found in the house.  Sometimes its found in the land that we know and love but sometimes forget to pay attention to.  It always amazes me how I miss little details that are so close to me.  This is always because I am too busy to notice.  I’m trying to be more aware…& always more thankful of the simple things like farmland.

Another Side Of The Old Pretty

Speaking of farmland; Happy first day of Spring to you! I hope you are seeing some signs of spring yourself.  I’m starting to see buds on my Lilac trees & Hydrangea’s.  It’s been beautiful here for the last 3 days.  The sun is shining and the earth is beginning to come out of hibernation.  The tulips are about 4″ tall.  We had a lot of moss growing in our yard this winter.  Skip (my hub) sprayed moss killer and mowed (yes mowed) the lawn last Friday.  Crazy huh?  Mowing in March…With all of the rain we’ve had, I just can’t belive it.  But it’s true.

Thank you for stopping by to check out my thoughts.  I hope, in the future you will come back and see some Pretty Homey ideas.  I think I’m starting to get my blog on again.

One Homey Fireplace…It’s so much prettier now…

It’s been awhile!  I’ll try to get with the program and start posting a little more often…This old fireplace was in need of some serious tender loving re-vamping.  The old white brick  lived a good life for the home owner’s.  It was tired.  Well…it could have lasted another 30 years, but let’s face it, everyone was tired of looking at it.  So, we decided to warm it up a bit.  Natural slate is beautiful to begin with, but add a good stone enhancer to it and Va Va Voom!  It is really amazing what a good stone enhancer can do for natural slate.   I absolutely love the effect the design and application gave to this room.

Job well done OLD fireplace. We won’t be seeing you anymore.
Hello you new Pretty! Looking forward to spending some time together.
This brick had been in place for about 30 years.

Pretty homey if you ask me. What do you think? Love to hear your comments.

I love fall/Autumn…It’s my favorite time of year.  Crispy cool air, beautiful colors, the smell of comfort food, deciding on all the wonderful things I will cook for my family and how I will decorate my home…Usually I have my family over to carve pumpkins in October.  This is a joyful thing for me…This year I didn’t have a pumpkin carving because the cold and flu has been passing through my house…I am posting a few pics from last  years at our pumpkin carving time…These times make me happy…Joyful things…
It was a great day, and something I look forward to every year.  Thank you for stopping by to take a look.  I hope you pop in often to see what’s been happening at Pretty Homey.

Now for the details...The fun stuff...

I thought I would post a picture of the guest room I’ve been working on for our granddaughters, and any other girls that come to visit.  It’s the room where my $5.00 yard sale bed frame lives.  It’s still a work in progress.  The next thing it needs are some pretty drapery panels that flow to the floor.  I think I will also make a frilly topper.  Next time you see this room, I hope it looks just a little more like the little jewel box I know it will be.

From Yard Sale To Yummy!

I try to stop at yard sales when I’m not in too much of a hurry (I wish this happened a little more often).  I was glad I had stopped the day I found this bed frame for $5.00.  Should have taked pics before, but didn’t think I’d be blogging about it.  I sanded it down, then added some pretty appliques that I got from http://www.outwatercatalogs.com/lg_display.cfm/catalog/2010_master_catalog/page/459 and painted it white.  This little cutie pie was just the thing I had been looking for.  I was redecorating a guest room for our young granddaughters.  I will post the progress of that little labor of love very soon.

Hello! So Happy I Finally Showed Up

So Happy to say “I’m the new blogger on the block”.  I have lot’s to learn, and I’m really excited about it.  I’ll be building my new blog day by day.  I know it doesn’t look like much now, but time will tell weather this is right for me or not.  I will be blogging about my passion for turning ordinary and not so pretty things and spaces into things and places I love.  I hope to inspire you to transform your surroundings into spaces that you love to be in, and love to share with others.

Let’s face it.  We all cant’ afford to design our spaces on an unlimited budget.  I hope that you will grow with me as I explore my new blog-ability.
